According to Euro 2012 organizers, the successful tournament staging allows Ukraine to be intended for the Winter Olympic Games in 2022.
"This is a tremendous success. Today all countries, all sports organizations, including the International Olympic Committee members, respond very positively on the staging of Euro in Ukraine. Undoubtedly, it strengthens our position and our plans to hold the Olympics," the National Olympic Committee President Serhiy Bubka said.
"It causes a major motivation for the following intentions and steps ... It is really a very important step for the future development of our country," he added.
The President of the Football Federation of Ukraine Hryhoriy Surkis said that Ukraine will host the basketball championship Euro basket in 2015, while the European Athletics Championships will be held in Donetsk.
He considers the staging of Euro 2012 successful. "The whole country should be proud of this success," Surkis said.
"I think that we still have chances of hosting the Olympic Games in 2022. We have reached the high hurdle and today we can assume that this is the investment in the future, including future in 2022," the President of FFU said.
