The further search of eight sailors of the sunken dry cargo ship “Vanessa” is considered to be unreasonable because of the ice situation in the Azov Sea.

The press service of the General department of the Extraordinary Ministry of Ukraine in Crimea reports that from January 3 till January 12 the subdivisions of the Extraordinary Ministry, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and forces of the frontier commandant’s office of Kerch held the search operation of lost crew members of the dry cargo ship “Vanessa”.

According to the conclusion of the Ukrainian scientific and research institute of medicine of transport “it is considered unreasonable to hold further searching works because of the ice situation in the Azov Sea,” the Extraordinary Ministry of Crimea reports.

As earlier reported, Bulgarian dry cargo ship “Vanessa” sunk in the Azov Sea on January 3. There were 11 people on board: 10 people of crew and Ukrainian pilot. The Ministry of Transport and Communication of Ukraine informs.

The accident occurred in the Northern part of the Kerch Channel. The sunken ship belongs to the Bulgarian side. It carried metal from Berdyansk. Seven out of eleven sailors of the “Vanessa” dry cargo ship died, one was rescued. Bodies of two members of the crew were found, and also two empty lifeboats from the sunken ship.
