The President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko congratulated the Ukrainian people on the International day of book and copyrights
According to the president’s press office, the congratulation statement says: “Role of book in the people’s life is impossible to overestimate. Reading is a great pleasure, opportunity to get world knowledge, powerful source of national and patriotic education. The book nourished spirituality of our people even in conditions of nongovernmental existence of the Ukrainian nation.”
“2006 became a record year by names of published books. I am glad that publishing in Ukraine is reviving that contributes to the growth of cultural level in the country, nation intellect, education and science.
We should strengthen this process and to give it state significance. We should educate our children through Ukrainian books and to concern over the world could read about us in different languages and we perceive it. It is necessary to increase and modernize publishing and to make native books available and desirable for the readers,” Yushchenko said.
The President noted that we have powerful potential and will be able to increase social role of the book in the country.
