The draft bill “On changes introduction to the law “On political parties in Ukraine” is registered in the Verkhovna Rada. The draft bill is submitted to the VR by one of the leaders of the Party of Regions Vasyl Kiselyov.
The draft bill foresees that “the President of Ukraine may not be a member of any political party, governing body or to represent the interest of the political party.”
“The draft bill requires to put a statutory prohibition on President’s participation (direct or mediate) in leadership or activity of any political party with the purpose to fulfill allegiance to Ukraine but not to the political parties or blocs, to provide observance of status of the head of the State but not its separate parts, to fulfill obligations concerning guarantor of rights and freedom of people and citizens but not separate categories by the President of Ukraine,” the draft bill says.
According to its author, adoption of this draft bill will provide unswerving fulfillment by the President of allegiance swear, status observance of the head of the State and guarantor of observance of the Constitution of Ukraine.
