Policemen allowed Melnyk to escape may be imprisoned up to five years

The Prosecutor’s office of Kyiv region opened criminal proceedings on the fact of negligence against the police officers, who improperly controlled the operation of the electronic means of following Petro Melnyk, the press service informs.

"The prosecutor's office of Kyiv region finished checking the actions of the police during exercising electronic control over Petro Melnyk, former rector of the Tax Academy, which had been put under house arrest.

The check revealed a number of irregularities in the actions of officials carrying out remote monitoring. In particular, those individuals did not respond promptly to information on violations of the signal from the bracelet, improperly determined the causes and circumstances of that, and did not ensure timely action to establish the whereabouts of the person, subject to a preventive measure," a statement reads.

Following the check, criminal proceedings under Part 2 of the Article 367 of the Criminal Code were opened. Information is entered in the unified register of pre-trial investigations. The sanction of Article provides for a penalty of imprisonment from 2 to 5 years.
