Ukraine is an important economic partner, and it has a great deal to offer the countries of the European Union, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said this at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday, Ukrinform reports.

"We are convinced that Ukraine really is an important economic partner for Hungary. Like for other EU countries. We have a great deal to offer on an equal basis," Mykola Azarov said, commenting on the results of his visit to the Republic of Hungary.

The head of government noted that he had very positive and promising talks with the President, Prime Minister and Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Hungary.

"Notably, the positive was reinforced by the fact that on the day of the visit, the first gas from the European spot market to Ukraine ran through the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. It is no exaggeration to say that it is a very important event. The real breakthrough energy independence of Ukraine," Azarov emphasized.

He also announced an agreement with the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to develop a few more routes for transportation of hydrocarbons.

Moreover, the sides discussed the prospects of increasing electricity exports to Hungary, developing transit potential, upgrading border crossings and increasing their number, cross-border cooperation (especially in emergencies), tourism development, etc. "Our bilateral cooperation is growing," he said.
