President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a decree declaring 2014 the year of Taras Shevchenko in Ukraine, presidential press office reports.
The decree instructs the Cabinet and other authorities to take steps to broadly celebrate the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birth in Ukraine and abroad, take measures to widely publicize Shevchenko’s literary and painting heritage, organize literature forums, restore Taras Shevchenko museums and monuments, arrange cooperation with the UN and UNESCO to hold international-level festivities and an international conference dedicated to the anniversary, etc.
