About three million hectares of winter crops will be reseeded in Ukraine in 2012 due to adverse weather conditions, Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said, UKRINFORM reported referring to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.

"This year, bad weather did not allow us to sow winter wheat in the amount that we had planned. As a result, we sowed 200,000 hectares less than expected. Drought and chilly winter also changed the situation. Thus, winter passes normally in northern and central regions, with significant snow cover. Kherson region, part of Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk regions and Crimea were slightly hit by severe frosts. In general, we will have to reseed about three million hectares of winter crops," the minister said.

In order to minimize losses, the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry is already preparing to compensate for reseeding and is drafting a strategy for the conservation of crops.

Earlier, the minister said that Ukraine would have to reseed around two million hectares of winter crops this spring and that UAH 20 million was envisaged in the state budget for this goal.
