The government is studying the possibility of termination by court of gas agreements with Russia concluded by former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko in 2009, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said Friday in Kyiv's Pechersk District Court when questioning him as a witness in the case of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"The government is studying the possibility of termination of agreements with Russia through court. However, the decision on this matter is not yet taken," Azarov stressed, UKRINFORM reported.

At the same time, he noted that Russia complies with the terms of the contract.

Azarov said that the projected price of Russian natural gas in the fourth quarter 2011 is USD 388 per 1,000 cubic meters.

"In the first quarter of 2011 the price was USD 263, in the second - USD 296. In the third we are negotiating the projected cost of USD 348, in the fourth - USD 388," he said.

As UKRINFORM reported, Yulia Tymoshenko is accused of abuse of office during the signing of gas contracts with Russia in 2009 pursuant to Part 3 Article 365 of the Criminal Code (abuse of power). According to the court case, Yulia Tymoshenko, when signing the 2009 agreements with Russia on gas supplies, caused on the state losses for UAH 1.5 billion.

At Friday's hearing of the Pechersk District Court the prosecutors filed a motion to replace Tymoshenko's written undertaking not the leave the country for detention in custody.

"The defendant by her behavior interferes with establishing the truth. I therefore declare a petition to change the preventive measure on her not to leave the country for arrest," prosecutor Lilia Frolova emphasized
