Victor Yushchenko visited the Kherson Center for Social and Labor Rehabilitation of Disabled Children. After seeing its classrooms, gym and workshop, he spoke with the children and their teachers, the President's press office reported.

Director Lidia Nikishina told the President about the center, where 65 children of different age study and undergo medical treatment. She thanked him for helping the children with particular needs.
In his turn, Yushchenko expressed “sincere gratitude” to the teachers “for the hope they give to the parents” and stressed that the state wanted to make professionals work for the children.

“We demonstrate our European character by noticing the kids who were ignored in the past,” he said, adding that all children with particular needs were “absolutely normal members of our society.”
“You are wonderful and you will have a wonderful life,” Yushchenko stressed when addressing the children.

The Head of State also congratulated those present on New Year and Christmas and gave the children sweets, toys, and equipment. They gave him a painting.

Then Deputy Secretariat Chief-of-Staff Anatoly Matviyenko recited an order to reward Svitlana Soluk as mother-heroine.

The President also presented Tavria cars to four WWII invalids living in Kherson oblast. He thanked the veterans for their contribution to our victory.

Yushchenko went to the Kahovka Hydro Power Plant to take part in a ceremony to open a bridge crossing over the M14 highway.

*The Kherson Center for Rehabilitation was established in 1990. In 2002, they opened classes to teach twenty children who study according to special curriculums.
