The purchase price of sugar may be reduced, minister of agricultural policy and food Mykola Prysiazhniuk told a briefing at the Cabinet of Ministers, ForUm correspondent reports.
He noted that the purchase price of sugar has to be increased. "But we can not raise the sugar prices, especially wholesale, without the economic motivation to increase a demand. We understand that this is necessary, because the wholesale price of 4.20 UAH is impossible. But today we have no opportunities for this," the minister said and added: "Unfortunately, on the contrary, we may have to reduce the minimum purchase price for sugar producers to avoid the tax collapse."
According to Prysiazhniuk, the government is working on the balance of sowing sugar beet, sugar production and processing into biofuel.
