Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych stresses that the law prohibits foreigners from buying agricultural land in Ukraine.
"The recently enacted law allows foreign companies and investors to buy the land to build the company on. It is a common practice in the world," he said during working visit to Kyiv region, ForUm correspondent reports.
The President said that now the issue is in the public spotlight.
"We are building a modern country, and all the other conversations around this issue are baseless," he stressed.
On October 2, the Parliament allowed foreign nationals and citizens of foreign capital to buy nonagricultural land.
Under the law, foreign legal entities can buy the land from the state and municipal property. Land plots can be bought by foreign enterprises, enterprises with foreign investments, foreign states, international governmental and non-governmental organizations.
