12 criminal cases have been initiated since the beginning of the election campaign, head of the Internal Ministry Department for Mass and Sports Activities Oleh Matveytsov told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.
According to him, three criminal cases were instituted under the Article 296 (hooliganism), three cases – under the Article 185 (theft), one case - under the article 357 (Stealing, appropriation, or extortion of documents, or acquiring them by fraud or abuse of office, or endamagement of same), one case - under the Article 199 (fraud), one case – under the Article 194 (willful destruction or endamagement of property), one case – under the Article 346 (threats or violence against a statesman or a public figure) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and on the attempt to murder (the Article 15 and 115 of the CCU).
He added that eight perpetrators, involved in illegal activities, have been already established during the investigation of criminal cases. A pre-trial investigation is being conducted.
"35 are to be accused of administrative offences. Upon considerations in the courts, four people were imposed administrative penalties on," the Interior Ministry representative said.
However, Matveytsov denied allegations that the law enforcement officers do not always respond to offenses occurring during the election campaign. According to him, the police check all the reports on possible violations of the electoral law and take the necessary measures.
He said that two policemen will work by turns at each polling place on the election day.
