MP of Ukraine, member of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction, member of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Yulia Liovochkina, is convinced that the European Union will sign the initialled Association Agreement with Ukraine, because it is economically beneficial for the European Union.

"It (the Association Agreement with the EU - ed.) will be signed, because Europe is very pragmatic. It is economically beneficial to the European Union." The MP said, press office of the Party of Regions reports.

Yulia Liovochkina noted that for Ukraine this agreement was primarily of political significance, stressing that the Ukrainian state would bear substantial losses in the first 3-5 years of the effect of the document.

"We sign it, first, for political reasons, because we must move forward in implementing our European choice," the MP noted, calling the existence of free trade area with the EU as an obligatory requirement of European integration of Ukraine.

In particular, the politician noted that the cancellation of the duty on car imports, provided by the agreement, would result in loss of budget revenues by 10%. In addition, according to the document, Ukraine pledges to implement European standards in the energy sector, which needs investment worth "billions of dollars" and which the counry does not have. The signing of the agreement may also result in the loss of competitiveness of Ukrainian producers in other industries, and the EU does not offerc any compensators for economic losses.

However, according to the parliamentarian, in the long term perspective the losses of some Ukrainian producers are to be compensated through increase of competitiveness of others due to free trade area with the EU.
