
Prime Minister Mykola Azarov instructed the central authorities to work out proposals for the improvement of the electoral legislation before May, Acting Director of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's Information Policy Department Yevhen Perebyinis told a briefing.
"On March 4, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has approved a plan of priority measures to improve the electoral legislation ... in accordance with these documents central authorities are tasked to make suggestions on improving electoral legislation before April 30," he said.
Perebyinis also drew attention to the fact that these proposals are aimed at developing of the bills, whose passing is demanded by the European Union.
It is noted that these bills should include all the recommendations of the international missions, which monitored the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of October 28, 2012.
The official said that Azarov instructed to prepare the bills on reforming the state and public media, as well as on implementation of effective control over the transparency and legitimacy of the funding of political parties.
According to the Foreign Ministry, all these activities have to confirm Ukraine's intention to sign the Association Agreement with the EU in November 2013.
