450 million euros are needed for reconstruction of the Bortnychi aeration plant, head of the Kyiv City Council environmental commission Denys Moskal told journalists, ForUm correspondent reports.
"The situation with Bortnychi aeration plant causes significant disturbance. We invited the head of the plant at the meeting of the standing committee on environmental issues. He reported that immediate actions must be taken regarding the continuation of the reconstruction of dams till weather conditions allow equipment to drive across it and bring up the ground for bedding. This must be done immediately, as there is leakage in many places. Leakage blurs the fields, which could lead to an environmental disaster," the expert said.
According to him, a draft decision on the list of environmental measures has been included in the agenda of the City Council meeting.
"One of the measures is the allocation of funds for the reconstruction of the fields. It is envisaged to allocate 20 million UAH. Although this is not enough. About 100 million UAH are needed to complete the reconstruction," Moskal said.
At the same time, he said, this is just one of the local problems. "The plant itself needs reconstruction, but there is no project. It is ordered, but there is no financing for its development. Reconstruction itself will cost about 450 million euros. It is clear that Kyiv can’t allocate such amount. We need public financing, as the Bortnychi aeration plant is technologically outdated and has completely exhausted its resources," the expert concluded.
