The banking system of Ukraine has been showing good growth rates for three years, director of the NBU regulatory and methodological support for banking regulation and supervision department Natalia Ivanenko told a round table, ForUm correspondent reports.

"The banking system of Ukraine has demonstrated good results in its development for the third year in a row," the representative of the National Bank said.

She added that the volume of loans granted to the economy, since the beginning of this year has risen by 21 billions. Most of these loans have been issued in local currency. According to her, the hryvnia loans have increased by 17 billions.

"The quality of credit operations of the banking system is improving, and so-called non-performing loans, to which we refer doubtful and bad loans. Since the beginning of year, the total amount has decreased by 11 billions, their share of the loan portfolio, of course, also has decreased. At the beginning of the year it was 14.3%, now - 15.2%," the representative of the National Bank of Ukraine said.

According to Ivanenko, as of September 1, the volume of retail deposits in banks grew by 43 billion UAH. "These funds are essential share of the banks’ resource base. They constitute more than a third," the banker said.

"We can be proud of the fact that the banking system has reached the profitable activity. In 2012, banks have had revenues of 2.9 billion UAH for 8 months. The number of banks, which have received income, has significantly increased," Ivanenko concluded.
