The United Nations has recognized the Ukrainian peacekeeping contingent the best of the national contingents of the UN mission on stabilization of the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the press service of the Defense Ministry reported.
120 Ukrainian soldiers of the 18th helicopter detachment of the Armed Forces headed by the commander of the detachment, military sniper pilot and colonel Ihor Yaremenko were awarded with world service medals.
Chief logistics of the North Kivu sector (Congo province) Edith Weber congratulated peacekeepers noting that the base camp of the Ukrainians is the best in the province, and this is a merit of each military unit.
During the ceremony, deputy commander of the North Kivu sector, colonel Vidzhar Bnair noted the professionalism and experience of the Ukrainian peacekeepers.
He also expressed gratitude to President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych for the decision to send peacekeeping contingent to take part in a mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
