"I’m quite sure we can say that during the Euro 2012 football passions absolutely smashed political emotions. The idea of a political boycott of the Euro 2012 was ignored, in fact, by the ordinary Europeans, who set the record for the number of tickets bought, matches attendance, the number of people coming to Ukraine in general," the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Oleh Voloshyn told a briefing.
"This is a great victory for the Ukrainian and Polish people. However, it was achieved not by the authorities, not by the opposition, not politicians in general. It is the achievement of ordinary Ukrainians, who have shown a high hospitality, tolerance and quickly destroyed the myth about the alleged racism and intolerance in our country," he added.
