Interior Ministry of Ukraine stands for toughening responsibility for rape, Ministry's spokesman Volodymyr Polishchuk told a press conference.
"The relevant article of the Criminal Code provides for imprisonment up to 12 years. It's not a short term, but the decision is up to court. I think the responsibility must be toughened. Some countries have castration for similar crimes," Polishchuk said.
The spokesman added that corresponding amendments to the legislation must be considered by means of public discussions.
As a reminder, there have been two infamous rapes recently. On March 10 three young men raped and burned 19 year old girl in Mykolayv, and in the second half of March a girl was raped by five young men in Uman.
