The state is obliged to provide the citizens of Ukraine free and peaceful life, even if they are outside their homeland, said MP of Ukraine, member of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction, First Deputy Chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Olena Bondarenko.

"President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych instructed the Government and the Foreign Intelligence Service to accelerate and to intensify their efforts to free the Ukrainian citizens in Libya from arrest as soon as possible," Olena Bondarenko said commenting on instructions of President of Ukraine to Cabinet of Ministers to take necessary measures to protect Ukrainians, detained in Libya.

MP reminded that on August 27 in the Libyan city of Tripoli were detained 22 Ukrainian citizens. They are civil engineers and worked at enterprises of oil and gas industries in Libya. "But for some reason, the representatives of the national transitional council of Libya decided that these people are somehow involved in participating in the hostilities on the side of Muammar Gaddafi," said Olena Bondarenko, adding that the information is being verified, but no charges were put forward until now.

"Today our people are under house arrest. They are daily visited by representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy and a doctor. Ukrainians feel themselves satisfactory, they are provided with food and drinking water," the politician said, Party of Regions press office reported.

She said that Ukrainian diplomats don’t give up talking with representatives of the Libyan side, not only in Tripoli, but also in Kyiv and other European capitals.

"Party of Regions faction called on Libyan side to free our citizens and to give them the possibility to return to Ukraine. We wish detained to get free as soon as possible and to return to their home," the parliamentarian said.

Olena Bondarenko also said that Ukrainian specialists work in different countries - not only in Libya, they need protection of their rights and interests. "Our state is obliged to provide them free and peaceful life, even if they are outside their homeland," she said.

"That's why we support the desire of the President of Ukraine - guarantor of rights of Ukrainian - to defend and to protect every citizen of our country from violating their rights, wherever they are," she concluded.
