Speaker of the parliament Arseny
Yatsenyuk stands against the change of Crimea’s status from the autonomous republic into a
region of Ukraine. Press office of the VR reported.
Yatsenyuk underlined that the status of Crimea is registered in the Constitution and “speculation
around this question will not add stability in the Ukrainian society and
foreign-policy authority” of Ukraine.
According to the Speaker, “separatism
and antinational mood in Crimea are caused by economic backwardness. Yatsenyuk considers that the state
must focus on the social and economic development of Crimea, as it is the guarantee of both its
stability as of the autonomy and Ukraine in general.
Speaker assures he intends to insist on “real filling on Crimean budget” during
the process of formation of the state budget for 2009.
Earlier the activists of the all-Ukrainian union “Freedom” called the Speaker
and leaders of the democratic coalition to submit for consideration a
referendum on recognizing Crimea a region of Ukraine.
