Japan relies on cooperation with Ukraine in the field of energy saving, Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Toichi Sakata told a press conference on the implementation of a comprehensive Kyiv underground carriages modernization project, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Today, the relations between Ukraine and Japan are developing in the fields of politics, economy and culture. This symbolizes precisely cooperation within the GIS," he said.

The ambassador recalled that the scheme provides for the purchase greenhouse carbon emissions by Japan under the Kyoto Protocol and implementation by Ukraine of Japanese energy-saving technologies for these funds, increasing the efficiency of energy use.

Toichi added that 35% energy savings can be expected within the project to modernize the Kyiv underground carriages. "I believe that this project will contribute to the further business cooperation in the fields of environmental protection, the introduction of energy-saving technologies, as well as the strengthening of friendly relations between Ukraine and Japan,"  Toichi summed up.
