The Cabinet has excluded the monument to Lenin in Kyiv's center, damaged in June end by representatives of nationalist organizations, from the list of monuments of national importance, Justice Minister Mykola Onishchuk has said, according to UkrInform.

The minister said that such a decision does not entail demolition of the monument, its further fate is a prerogative of local authorities.

As UKRINFORM reported, in July, the Kyiv City Administration permitted the Communist Party to restore the monument to Lenin on Shevchenko Boulevard. It was planned that it will take place on August 20. The CPU continues collecting the funds for its restoration.

The police detained five persons suspected of damaging the monument on June 29-30 night. But on July 2, the suspected were released on the recognizance not to leave.

Lenin's nose and hand were damaged by a sledgehammer.
