Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced late last week that the nation's constitution will be amended before the end of the year to extend the president's term in office to six years from the current four, and the parliament’s term to five from the current four.

Medvedev also submitted some amendments in to the law “On government of Russia,” which will make the government more accountable to parliament – the government will have to report to the parliament annually.
