The President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko notes that the Donetsk region has significant development potential and nowadays is one of the powerful industrial regions of the country. The President told at the meeting in Donetsk. The main topic of the meeting was results of social-economic development of the region in 2006 and prospects for this year.
According to the President, the main task is reforming of coal field. Yushchenko is convinced that local authorities should initiate development in this sphere. “I am convinced that such professional and skilled workers in this sphere are only in Donetsk region,” he added.
Among other priority tasks the President named environmental improvement. Donetsk region suffers from toxic wastes most of all in Ukraine.
In scope of the meeting, issues on humanitarian development, operation of free economic zones, conditions of housing communal services were also discussed.
The President paid peculiar attention to issue on health protection. He noted that sickness rate of dangerous diseases including HIV/AIDS are progressing in Donetsk region.
