January 1, Ukraine takes over the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) chairmanship after Belarus.
The decision was taken by the Council of CIS Heads of State on October 25, 2013.
Ukraine will chair the CIS in 2014 through a representative in the Council of Heads of State, Heads of Government, the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Economic Council, The Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Member Nations and other bodies of the Commonwealth, as well as in the Commission on Economic Affairs at the CIS Economic Council.
Belarus and Kazakhstan will be co-chairs in the CIS.
Year 2014 is declared the Year of Tourism.
Ukraine intends to intensify the implementation of the agreement on free trade area within the CIS, in particular, to achieve the signing of the free trade agreement in services and on access to pipeline transportation.
