Ukrainian fisherman, who survived the accident in the Sea of Azov, will not be arrested in Russia, deputy director of the information policy department of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Olena Vashenko told ForUm correspondent.

According to her, a criminal case under the Article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Illegal fishing" was initiated against Oleksandr Fedorovych.

"The Foreign Ministry is working with its Russian colleagues on the issue of return of Oleksandr Fedorovych home, where he could continue treatment. However, according to our information, he won’t be taken into custody," Vashenko said.

She also noted that, according to information received by the Consulate General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don from the head doctor of the central district hospital in Elsk, the treatment of our compatriot will soon end.

"The patient feels well, surgical interventions have produced positive results, which gives reason to believe that there is no threat to his life and health. We would like to emphasize that all medical services to Fedorovych have been free of charge and Russian doctors are taking all the measures necessary to recover," Vashenko added.

She also expressed the hope that in the near future Fedorovych will return to Ukraine.
