In Ukraine, the young people want do military service, in spite of a small salary, first deputy defense minister Volodymyr Mozharovsky told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.
"We have a sufficient number of young people, who want to serve. Of course, it is easier to equip in the small towns and district centers, because there is little work. But the selection is still on a competitive basis," Mozharovsky said, noting that it testifies to the fact Ukrainians are ready to choose a military career, in spite of low salaries.
"Salary depends on term of service and post. The lowest salary on the contract in the first period is two thousand hryvnia. However, the average salary is 3.5-4 thousand hryvnia. Of course, this is not a high salary, but military service is a prestigious," he said.
In addition, the deputy minister noted that in 2013 the military salary will increase by 35% and will reach the level of public sector salaries.
