Ukraine and the European Union will unite efforts to prevent smuggling of cigarettes, Heinz Zourek, European Commission Director General for Taxation and Customs Union said at the press conference within the meeting of chief customs officials of EU and CIS.
"Unfortunately, not only the volumes of goods turnover grows, but smuggling as well, especially tobacco smuggling. That's why we must join efforts to prevent this negative phenomenon. We will exchange information to simplify the procedure of loads registration," he said.
In his turn, head of the Customs Service of Ukraine Igor kaletnyk informed that in 2013 the Customs would realize a number of initiatives, supported by the EU, to prevent smuggling of tobacco products.
"We will pay special attention to this issue in 2013 to prevent smuggling," the official said.
