There is a deficit of school books in regional languages in Ukraine, minister of education and science, youth and sports Dmytro Tabachnyk told a press conference in the Cabinet, ForUm correspondent reports.

"By law, the state must provide children with education in minority languages. However in 2010, only 42 thousand textbooks for the tenth grade were ordered for all schools with the teaching in minority languages. We removed this restriction, and in 2011, schools ordered 892 thousand textbooks in the minority languages. This year, there will be the same procedure: the schools will order textbooks in such language in which children are taught. The need for such books amounts to two million 60 thousand including one million 991 thousand books in Russian ordered by parents," Tabachnyk said.
