Kyiv Court of Appeals has commuted the penalty for the former acting defense minister Valery Ivashchenko into one year of probation period and released him from custody.

The decision was made after 40-minute consultations of the penal of judges and announced by the presiding judge Olga Yurdiga.

"The appeal of the convicted Ivashchenko and his defense team has been satisfied partially, releasing him from the primary punishment and sentencing to one-year probation period," the court ruling says.

The court has also obliged Ivashchenko not to leave Ukraine without previous notification of penal inspection officers and to appear regularly for registration.
