"We instructed the Prosecutor's Office and the Interior Ministry to investigate why the complaints of foresters about the illegal extraction of sand in this forest area were ignored by the Interior Ministry officers," Azarov said after meeting of the operational headquarters for combating forest fire in Kherson region, ForUm learned from the Cabinet’s press office.
The PM stressed that the President instructed him to make serious conclusions following the results of investigation.
In addition, Azarov said that everyone involved in such malpractice will suffer severe punishment.
Azarov mentioned that the law enforcement agencies are considering the version of the intentional forest arson to take out timber.
"The task of the Internal Ministry is to investigate the information that the forest was intentionally set on fire to take out the round wood," Azarov said, expressing belief that the investigative actions will establish the truth and the guilty will be punished severely.
The Kherson region prosecutor’s office initiated a criminal investigation into the intentional forest arson.
