Since the beginning of 2012 four perinatal centers have been opened in Ukraine, deputy head of President's Administration Iryna Akymova told an extended meting of the monitoring council of the "New life" project, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the official, the centers have been opened in Donetsk, Kyiv, Kirovograd and Kharkiv and have already welcomed 3.800 newborns. By the end of June it is planned to open similar centers in Zhytomyr and Dnipropetrovsk, and by the yearend - in the rest of the regional centers of Ukraine, including Crimea.

Akymova also informed that the President issued an instruction to conduct close monitoring of every perinatal center to study and compare their efficiency and operability.

"The President has also charged the Health Ministry to work out quality control standards, individual for every perinatal center, for 2012-2015 years. Jointly with the state investments agency the Health Ministry is to monitor and report on centers' activities.

"This projects implements new approaches to the medical assistance for mother and child. Hence, following the President's initiative, this implementation process must be maximum open and transparent," the official said and added that the "New life" projects provides for opening 27 perinatal centers all over Ukraine by 2014.

"The given project fully complies with the reforms in the healthcare system," she summed up.
