The European Union not to take a break before signing the Association Agreement with Ukraine, the Head of the EU Delegation, Ambassador José Manuel Pinto Teixeira asserted.

“…The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych told that the EU wants to take a break. This is not true! As I see, Mr. Yanukovych makes this statement, as he understands that currently the EU is not ready to sign this agreement if such issue is raised. However, it does not mean we want to postpone it. What do we need the break for?” he said in the interview with Komersant.

According to Teixeira, the EU does not have "a slightest doubt about the importance of this agreement for both the EU and Ukraine."

"Another matter is that there are some people in Ukraine for whom this agreement is unprofitable. Indeed, they really have nothing to lose, if there is a break," the representative of the EU said.

He also expressed a doubt that the issue of signing will be considered before the parliamentary elections in Ukraine. "At the same time, it does not mean that the elections will be the only criterion to be taken into account," the Head of the EU Delegation said.

"I cannot determine the start or ending of isolation and cannot speak on behalf of the EU about its existence. As you know, the EU Member States have different positions on this issue. But the vast majority is not positive about the processes taking place in Ukraine in the past two years, so now they are taking appropriate decisions," Teixeira said answering the question of whether he admits the possibility of Ukraine's isolation.

As a reminder, on May 11, at meeting with the President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti in Kyiv, Yanukovych expressed the view that a pause in relations between Ukraine and the EU would be good for both sides.
