The parliamentary committee on public health recommends the parliament to adopt the draft bill on smoke-free public places, ForUm learned from the parliament's pres office.

The primary purpose of the bill (Reg. No. 9474) is to protect the public from a harmful influence of tobacco smoke. In particular, it aims at protecting the visitors and employees of public catering establishments, stadiums, sports grounds, clubs and sections, and cultural facilities from harmful influence of the secondhand smoke.  

The bill bans smoking at the public catering establishments, open and closed sports structures, stadiums, and cultural facilities.  

The bill also strengthens responsibility for placing ash trays and taking no action to stop smoking at the public catering establishments.

The committee members says that the bill is topical in view of the fact that the President of Ukraine proclaimed 2012 a year of sports and healthy lifestyle in Ukraine.
