Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko believes the initiative of
representatives of the U.S. Congress to meet with her is a sign of
America’s support for Ukraine’s democratic development.
"Thank you for visiting the opposition. This is important because the situation is such that we can say that democracy in Ukraine is being gradually curtailed, and therefore communication with the opposition is a sign of support for democratic institutions in Ukraine," Yulia Tymoshenko said during today’s meeting with representatives of the U.S. Congress, according to Tymoshenko's official website.
Yulia Tymoshenko stressed that she values highly relations between the two countries and hopes for their successful development. "We, as a political force, value those strategic relations between Ukraine and the United States which you have been building from the first day Ukraine gained its independence. And for us it’s very important that in these difficult times, with the change in government in Ukraine, this strategic partnership not only be maintained, but that it be able to gain momentum," she said.
Yulia Tymoshenko recalled that cooperation between her government team and American representatives was fruitful and promising. "The entire team that I headed developed wonderful programs that gave us hope for energy independence. And we did them together with the United States, together with companies representing the nuclear energy sector, the development of our oil and gas transport capacity. It’s very important that all this continue and that this partnership in this important area be preserved," she said.
"I’m convinced that the visit of your delegation will strengthen all our steps, all our visions of how to develop this strategic partnership," Yulia Tymoshenko told the American lawmakers.
