The Ministry of Interior has announced the beginning of a large-scale
check of all legal gun owners to comply with the conditions of its
storage and use. This was stated by Director of Public Relations
Department of the Ministry of Interior Dmytro Andreyev, the ministry
said in a statement Tuesday, UKRINFORM reported.
According to Andreyev, special attention will be given to those who abuse alcohol, drugs and disturb public order. These people will be deprived of the weapons and the permission for gun storing will be canceled.
Andreyev said that the task is to prevent emergencies, associated with the use of weapons.
As noted by the Ministry of Interior, only in December 2010 and the first ten days of January, police arrested 382 offenders with two machine guns, two pistol-carbines, five submachine guns, one shotgun, 21 rifles, 35 pistols, 42 sawn-off hunting gun, 123 units of homemade firearms, and 20 grenades, eight kilograms of explosives, 19 electric detonators and 8,932 cartridges.
