The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has adopted the Resolution "On Ensuring the Unhampered Activity of the Mass Media during the Election Campaign 2010", with 364 MPs in favor, UKRINFORM reported.

The instrument aims to remove legal, administrative, economic and institutional obstacles in covering the election campaign at the elections of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local councils and village, township and city mayors to be held on October 31 this year. The Resolution is intended to prevent possible abuse by the regulatory authorities during inspections of the media.

The document also provides for an appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers with the requirement to take steps to discontinue checks of the media by the relevant services of the executive authorities and public institutions at the time of the election campaign.

Under this decree the State Tax Administration and the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting must cancel scheduled audits of the media at the time of the election campaign.
