The President of Ukraine defines Kazakhstan as Ukraine’s major partner in Central Asia. "I am delighted that we understand each other well. And my first meeting with you, held in Kazakhstan, persuaded that our bilateral relations have a great future," he said, referring to Nursultan Nazarbayev.
President Yanukovych expressed confidence that Ukraine and Kazakhstan can cooperate in various fields.
“Ukraine is a state that has strong industry and enormous scientific and technical potential. Therefore, our trade and economic relations derive from the hard work we do in our countries," Viktor Yanukovych said, adding that he considers cooperation in space research particularly beneficial.
"There is a huge machinery-building complex in both Ukraine and Kazakhstan, which is interesting in terms of uniting the effort to create new machinery," the President said.
Viktor Yanukovych stressed that he is satisfied with Kazakhstan’s consent to Ukraine’s proposal to develop cooperation in aircraft construction: "I have heard a positive answer from you, and we are very pleased with that... We would really like to promote establishment of joint ventures to produce modern aircrafts, both passenger and transport. It is very important for the economies of our countries," he said.
President Yanukovych also highlighted cooperation in agricultural machinery construction. "Agrarian sectors of Ukraine and Kazakhstan both require modern agricultural machinery. So, this is another question of great mutual interest,” the President of Ukraine said.
Viktor Yanukovych added that both now and back when he was the Prime Minister of Ukraine he has told about Ukraine's interest in developing oil and gas fields in Kazakhstan.
Other very promising areas of cooperation between Ukraine and Kazakhstan the President of Ukraine named nuclear energy and development of transport corridors. "That transportation infrastructure, we currently have, does not realize our opportunities fully," Viktor Yanukovych said.
"These and many other questions are of great interest for us today," Viktor Yanukovych stressed.
In turn, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev thanked Viktor Yanukovych for the invitation to visit Ukraine. "It is the seventh time we meet this year and I am very glad about such a dynamics," Nursultan Nazarbayev said adding that Kazakhstan is fully prepared to cooperate with Ukraine in all directions.
