International observers currently see no facts that could significantly influence the returns of the Ukrainian presidential election, Sergei Mirzoyev from the international nongovernment organization 'For Fair Elections' told the press on Friday.

"The real threats that could have a serious impact on the election returns have not yet formed," he said. The mission representatives think quite highly of the activity of the Central Election Commission. The mission also appreciates the introduction of the State Electoral Register. "

These are the first elections in Ukraine being held based on the electoral register. There are simply no such registers in many former USSR countries. I think that Ukraine has made a great step forward here," Mirzoyev emphasized.

The mission 'For Fair Elections' comprises advocates, lawyers, politologists and human rights activists from Germany, the Czech Republic, the United States, Bulgaria, Russia and other countries.  The election authorities registered 197 official observers representing international organizations and foreign countries. The Voting Day is set for January 17, 2010.
