The total government (direct) debt and the government-backed-debt of Ukraine grew by 16% in July, or USD 4,579 billion to reach USD 33,262 billion, the Finance Ministry reported.
The government debt has risen by 35.2% or USD 8,663 billion since the start of the current year. The ministry says the main reasons for the rise in the government debt are the IMF's third disbursement of USD 3.3 billion under the IMF Stand-By Arrangement, use of internal government bonds and providing with sovereign guarantees.
Ukraine's total government debt in 2008 increased by 40% or USD 7.03 billion, Ukrainian radio reported.
