Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko demands from President of Ukraine Viktor Yuschenko to urgently dismiss from office Head of the National Bank of Ukraine Volodymyr Stelmakh. Such statement was disclosed by the Prime Minister of Ukraine at a briefing today.

The Prime Minister informed that NBU with a number of Ukrainian banks, in particular, with Nadra bank perform speculation hryvnia rate operations, “It is a scandal for the banking system, scandal for the NBU”.

The Head of Government urged the President to intervene in solving of this problem. “I appeal to the President – to stop covering these facts, to stop deriving benefits from it and put an end to it and I also demand from the President – to urgently present dismissal of the Head of the National Bank of Ukraine and remove all NBU Board of Directors.

Moreover, Yulia Tymoshenko promised to appeal to the international organizations investigating the money-laundering and macro speculation and corruption operations, in case the NBU fails to urgently stabilize hryvnia rate.

The Prime Minister also stated about intention to make a request to the Accounting Chamber and General Public Prosecutor's Office to inspect the commercial banks’ activity which can be concerned with the collapse of the national currency.

“I address the Accounting Chamber, public prosecutor to urgently inspect the Nadra bank and other banks which disrupt hryvnia rate in speculation market,” the PM noted.

“As a Prime Minister I won’t tolerate it,” Yulia Tymoshenko added.
