Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov states that President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin at NATO summit in Bucharest told about common history and culture of Russia and Ukraine. Lavrov informed in an interview, published on April 17 in the “Komsomolskaya Pravda” newspaper (the text of the interview is performed on the official site of the Russian Foreign Ministry).

“No threats from our side were sounded. And at the closed sitting most participants of this summit considered the speech of Vladimir Putin as clear, fair, frank. It’s true that the President much time paid to questions on NATO expansion. He explained why it would not add safety and arouse new and difficult problems, speaking about Ukraine and Georgia as an example. He said that in the composition of Ukrainian population there is one third of ethnic Russians in the composition of Ukrainian population, we have centuries-old common history and culture. He showed development of Georgia’s history, taking into account the relations which existed between Georgians, Abkhazians, Ossetes and Russians. For most western partners it became a revelation,” Lavrov said.
