President Viktor Yushchenko held a joint press conference after an energy security conference in Vilnius on Wednesday, describing energy cooperation agreements as a “practical step in the implementation of the Odesa-Brody-Plock-Gdansk oil pipeline project," President's press office reports.

“Today’s agreement is the first pragmatic step towards the actualization of this unique opportunity for our countries, both at the level of commercial interests and at the level of corporate interests,” he said.

Yushchenko said the completion of the project was Ukraine’s strategic goal but added that it would benefit all its participants.“Of course, we are speaking of a continental project which makes each country that participates in it closer to what we call European integration,” he said.

He suggested considering the financial and technical aspects of the project at next year’s energy summit in Kyiv.
