Prime Minister of Portugal Jose Socrates considers that the summit Ukraine – EU before the early parliamentary elections in Ukraine has political meaning. He stated on Friday at the joint press conference during the Xl Summit Ukraine –EU, ForUm’s correspondent reports.
“It (political meaning –ed.) is understandable for the European Union. It is a confidence in democratic processes in Ukraine. We are also sure in abilities of Ukraine to reach political stability and constitutional clarity,” Socrates said.
According to him, Ukraine will be able to hold “fair, transparent, and democratic elections”.
In his turn, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barosso has noted that the early parliamentary elections in Ukraine will be held in correspondence with international criteria of freedom of choice and transparency.
He thinks that after the elections the EU will further work with Ukraine.
According to Barosso, Ukraine should concentrate its efforts at economic and political reforms.
The president of the European Committee has emphasized that the European Union is confident in “great future of Ukraine”.
