On May 22, 2006 in Kyiv the Ukraine-Serbia-Montenegro consultations on European and Euro-Atlantic integration and Danube cooperation took place with the assistance of Anton Buteyko, First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Pavel Evremovic, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Serbia and Montenegro.

The parties exchanged information of internal developments in Ukraine and Serbia and Montenegro, in particular on the formation of a new Ukrainian Government and the referendum on independence of Montenegro. Participants of the consultations examined prospects for implementation of Ukraine, Serbia and Montenegro’s course to the EU and NATO integration, the situation around Kosovo and the ways to accelerate the Danube cooperation in view of the Belgrade Convention on Danube Navigation revision, MFAU press service informed.

Ukraine and Serbia and Montenegro reaffirmed mutual support for the path to the EU and NATO and expressed interest in developing bilateral mechanism for sharing experience on European and Euro-Atlantic integration, in particular regarding State employees’ training, adaptation of national legislation to the EU norms and standards, holding of informational and explanatory work among citizens. In this context the delegation of Serbia and Montenegro mentioned that according to sociological polls at present 80% of citizens back up joining of their country to the NATO Program Partnership for Peace and 36% support accession to NATO due to the targeted policy of the government in the sphere of informational work population.
