On the whole the European Union positively assesses the situation with regard to observance of human rights in Ukraine, Ukrainian Representative to the UN Commission on Human Rights Volodymyr Vasylenko told Ukrinform, commenting on outcomes of working consultations between Ukraine and the EU on human rights, which were held in Brussels.

Vasylenko stated his satisfaction with the consultations, which dealt with a wide range of issues of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the sphere of human rights.

The Ukrainian Representative to the UN Commission on Human Rights stressed that, presently, a legal infrastructure of human rights protection, which meets European and World principles and standards, has been established in Ukraine. Vasylenko referred to the European party's statements that, according to the information by some NGOs, both Ukrainian and international, there are no facts of systematic or mass violation of human rights in Ukraine.

As he stressed, the negotiations also dealt with simplification of the visa regime for Ukrainian citizens. And, according to the Ukrainian diplomat, there is a certain progress in this matter and the European Union is near to complete elaboration of a joint position on simplification of the visa procedures for certain categories of Ukrainian citizens, Cabinet's press office reported.

The European Union links the visa-related matters with negotiations on readmission, which is fully justified and demands additional efforts on the part of Ukraine. Although, the Ukrainian side takes measures to combat illegal migration, they are not enough, as Ukraine doesn't have an agreement with Russia on readmission. As Vasylenko told the journalists the agreements on simplification of the visa regime and on the readmission must take effect simultaneously.
