President Victor Yushchenko and Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk met with Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen, who is currently visiting Ukraine. The sides discussed trade-economic and investment cooperation between the two countries, President's press office reported.

The Head of State is convinced it is important to found an intergovernmental committee to enhance cooperation between Finland and Ukraine. Yushchenko said he hoped this committee would hold its first meeting this year.

The President believes Ukraine and Finland can efficiently cooperate in the telecommunications branch.

“We strive to reveal all opportunities to implement our economic and political relations,” he said.

Then Yushchenko and Vanhanen discussed Ukraine’s EU integration. The Prime Minister said his country “is ready to work towards improving Ukraine-EU relations, especially when it presides in the EU.”

“Finland is ready to support Ukraine on its way to the European Union and help it get a market economy status,” he added.

Vanhanen assured the President his country supported all reforms in Ukraine.
