Viktor Yushchenko President of Ukraine with his wife and Mikhail Saakashvili President of Georgia visited Ushguli - the highest village in European mountains.
Ushguli is situated in Zemo Svaneti 2,200 meters height above sea level. It is known to be the religious and defensive architecture.
The guests of honor attended the places of interest and got to known the features of artisans’s work. Yushchenko was most interested in the woodcarving and production of fabric which is used for Svaneti hats.
Then Yushchenkos attended the church-office of Holly Mother in Lamaria built in XI century. The abbots told President of Ukraine about history and traditions of Georgian Orthodoxy.
Ushguli is situated near the foot of the highest peaks of Basal Caucasian Range. The churches of Ushguli were built in VII-XIV centuries.
